Description

We used the microarray to investigate the lack of Tenascin-R in brain of adult and P7 mice. The aim was to find differential expressed genes which could explain the behaviour differences between the tenascin wt and ko mice. The data show that not many genes are dysregulated in the Tnr deficient mouse in comparison to the wt mouse brain.

Description

We performed RNA sequencing analysis of hepatic gene expression a few hours after amlexanox treatment, and identified over 1700 differentially expressed genes. Pathway analysis of these differentially regulated genes revealed that the top two most enriched pathways were the adipocytokine signaling pathway and the Jak-STAT signaling pathway. Overall design: RNA-seq analysis of hepatic gene expression was used to identify differentially expressed genes in response to Amlexanox treatment.

Description

Many of the genes coding for secreted protein effectors are arranged in gene clusters in the genome of the biotrophic plant pathogen Ustilago maydis. The largest of these gene clusters, cluster 19A, encodes 24 secreted effectors. Deletion of the entire cluster results in severe attenuation of virulence. The generation and analysis strains carrying sub-deletions identified 9 genes significantly contributing to tumor formation after seedling infection. As the individual contributions of these genes to tumor formation were small, we studied the response of maize plants to the whole cluster mutant as well as to several individual mutants by array analysis. This revealed distinct plant responses, demonstrating that the respective effectors have discrete plant targets. Rationale: The fibrosing idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) are classified based on clinical, radiographic, and pathologic criteria. The separation into phenotypic subgroups is useful in predicting outcome and therapeutic strategy; however a large degree of ambiguity remains. Gene expression profiling may contribute to traditional criteria in IIPs by characterizing the dynamic biology that more accurately distinguishes subtypes of these diseases or their prognoses.

To study how the presence of PUFAs influences central cellular processes, and in order to perform lipidome, transcriptome and molecular studies we decided to use yeast as a model organism. We therefore co-expressed 12-desaturase and 6- desaturase genes from Mucor rouxii in S. cerevisiae with the objective to obtain a yeast strain that contains PUFAs, especially linoleic acid (LA, C18:29,12) and -linolenic acid (GLA, C18:36,9,12), in its membranes.

Description

Anthocyanin induction in plant is considered a general defense response against biotic and abiotic stresses. The infection by Ustilago maydis, the corn smut pathogen, is accompanied with anthocyanin induction in leaf tissue. We revealed that anthocyanin is intentionally induced by the virulence promoting secreted effector protein Tin2. Tin2 protein functions inside plant cells where it interacts with cytoplasmic maize protein kinase ZmTTK1. Tin2 masks an ubiquitin-proteasome degradation motif in ZmTTK1 leading to a more stable active kinase. Active ZmTTK1 controls transcriptional activation of genes in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway rerouting phenylalanine away from lignin biosynthesis.
